X64 compatibility

Post by piskie » 2011-06-18 19:03

I am using Windows XP Professional x32 with DW CS4 and ADDT 1.0.1
I am very familiar with this combination and have no reason to change except for various reasons, I would like to go to a 64 bit OS.
My choices are XP 64 bit or Windows 7 Professional 64 bit keeping CS4 + ADDT 1.0.1

Now the very last thing on earth that I want is to lose ADDT. Both for new sites and maintaining the many sites that I have built using ADDT.

So I would like to benefit from the Experience of other ADDT users to save me multiple installs and disk formats if others have already discovered what works and what doesn't.
Thanks in advance

PS: Does anyone know of ADDT into CS5 fixes that might emerge soon ??

I am sitting with the same problem. I need to invest in a new pc but am concerned about the incompatibility of Dreamweaver and the new pc / cpu architecture.

Surely there is a way to ensure it will work... or do we need to go with Linux?

I don't think Linux is a viable option for me.
I run so many mainstream Windows Applications that would rule that out.

Do we know anyone who has tried DW CS4 on XP x64 plus if they got that running, did they try it with ADDT ??

I am trying to avoid a full OS plus DW CS4 install to find out for myself.
No sense in going to all that trouble if it's already been ruled out.

Also, has anyone had any thoughts about possibly pooling together and paying somebody to code an ADDT upgrade to 64 bit and DW CS5 compatibility ??
With enough of us, it might not be too prohibitive a price to pay.

What about the old Interakt guys, are they all contractually excluded from such an exercise or just maybe................

Well I did bite the bullet and went out and bought myself a notebook with windows 7, 64Bit installed,

Dreamweaver and the extensions works just fine.
I had a "problem" (yes in inverted commas and itilics), that was not really a problem.
The extension manager seems to be hanging when installing an extension, windows reports the application as unresponsive. If you let it run the full installation process it becomes responsive again.

For good measure I am running the extansion manages in compatibility mode for Windows XP.

Fred, can you give me a bit of compatibility guidance please.
What version of DW and ADDT did you manage to get installed on Windows 7 64 bit in XP Mode ??
Also, what is the latest version of DW that you have heard about being compatible with ADDT ??

Thanks in advance for any info that you have.

I am running DW MX 2004 and the final release of the interakt products. No problems at all.
I would imagine ADDT would also run.

Not sure what the last version of DW was that was compatible with ADDT.

Hi Fred,

on my Laptop I'm using Win 7, Home, 64bit and DW 8.0. It doesn't accept the update to 8.02. There are even several hints on the net, but it doesn't work.

Did you or anybody else here do the trick?

Best wishes

Daniel

Hi Fred,

a new computer and a new attempt. And now I found a solution. The problem was the German version. Here in the middle inside the comments I found the running solution:

You have to manually extract a file and than run the command as an admin. Everything works fine now.

Best wishes

Daniel
