Anyone recommend a good progress bar to work with add/update forms after submit ???

I would suggest a standard jquery progress-bar.
You can always customise the look and feel of it once you got it working.

The main "pro" for the standard jquery bar is a lot of sites already make use of the jquery core so it is already cached on the visitors browser. That means the page should render more quickly.
