EU Cookie Directive

Post by Fred » 2011-06-03 22:58

Well guys,
As most EU based people know by now we now need to get express permission from site visitors before we can create cookies on their systems.

Would be interesting to hear how you would go about in solving this issue.
Remember you cant just block everyone and deny cookies left right and center, also it is a bad idea to present someone from the US of A with a cookie request page.

So you would first need to determine if the visitor is from somewhere in the EU and if it is a search engine bot to name two issues.

Well I am proud to announce that our bespoke content management system, XMS Systems, are now fully "EU Cookie" compliant and it works very well.

How does it work?
  • 1. Site admin select a list of countries that needs to opt-in to the cookies
    2. Site Admin can edit the cookie notification page to give the relevant information with regards to what cookies are going to be written and what is going to happen if the visitor doesn't accept the cookies..
    3. It detects where the user is coming from using IP Geo-location by Maxmind and redirects to the appropriate page so only the people that needs to see the page will ever get there.
    4. It detects if the user is a spider and takes the appropriate action, including detecting if the user is from xml-sitemaps generator
    5. Gives the user the option to opt-in or out as well as easily reset the whole cookie thing.
